JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN
Witness as Ministry has added another country to our Medical Project portfolio—South Sudan!
Last year WAM launched a pilot program designed to get donated medicines to long-suffering Sudanese refugees. Our pilot into Sudan was fraught with peril but successfully completed with many lessons learned. Those lessons we applied to future project planning.
There are more than 12 million Sudanese refugees scattered across Sudan and beyond its borders, all suffering from food insecurity, extreme poverty, and lack of access to healthcare. Hundreds are dying daily due to starvation, hunger-related disease, and conflict-related violence. Along with feeding projects last year, WAM committed to finding a way to get much-needed medicines into the region to be distributed to Sudanese refugees. Lack of access due to conflict and violence remains a barrier to aid delivery.
We launched a second pilot in May, this time to South Sudan. The medicine was shipped, received and cleared in Juba, and distributed at a South Sudan refugee camp in record time. Having successfully completed two pilots, we are currently working on a third shipment of medicine to benefit Sudanese refugees, especially sick children.
While many of us take for granted things like antibiotics and fever-reducers, the gift of donated medicine is truly a God-send for those without access to healthcare.
THE ASK
Please celebrate with us by offering prayers of thanksgiving that this medicine has reached the intended recipients.
Please pray, too, that the next shipment of medicine to South Sudan is also successfully received and distributed to those who need it the most.
