Electricity Crisis Causing Health Problems

LEBANON’S ENERGY CRISIS IS MAKING THE POPULATION SICK

Lebanon’s electricity sector has not produced enough power to meet demand since 1990. As a result, electric service is only available 2-4 hours per day and the use of diesel generators has become necessary for survival.

Unfortunately, the amount of carcinogens in the air has more than doubled since 2017. The impact on the people living in Lebanon is increased cancer cases, respiratory illnesses, strokes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.

WAM is responding through our medical support project by supporting clinics and distributing medicines and through our agriculture projects by utilizing solar power to irrigate our greenhouses.
