Among the Turkana

WITNESSING GOD'S WORK IN THE DESERT OF KENYA

WAM President Patrick Bouchebel has just returned from Kenya where the WAM team piloted a two-day emergency feeding and medical outreach project in Turkana County.

Despite the challenges of poor roads and communication barriers, the mission fulfilled every objective through the grace of God and the strong support of the local community. Our team was deeply blessed to spend time with these warm and joyful people, a true reminder of the beauty of God’s family across every nation and tribe.

Turkana County is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis as prolonged drought and poverty take their toll. Families who depend on their livestock for survival have watched their herds perish under harsh conditions, leaving many hungry and malnourished. Yet even in this dry and desperate land, God’s heart is for His people — to bring hope, restore what has been lost, and make streams of living water flow in the desert.

Day 1 — Kaapus Village
400 Families Reached

Our journey began in Kaapus, a remote village nestled in the arid plains west of Lodwar. Here, we gathered with the Turkana pastoral community for a time of ministry, prayer, and fellowship. Despite the harsh conditions, their faith and resilience shone brightly.

As hunger and drought continue to grip the region, we distributed vital food rations to 400 families—each parcel a tangible expression of God’s provision. Alongside the outreach, our medical team offered care and basic treatment to the sick, ensuring that those in need received essential medication and compassionate attention.

It was a day filled with gratitude, hope, and the unmistakable presence of God among His people in Turkana.

Day 2 — Ngikatukoi Church
500 Families Reached

At Ngikatukoi Church, we were welcomed by songs of joy and thanksgiving as the Turkana community gathered under the shade of acacia trees. Together with our partners, we served 500 families—ensuring that the elderly, the sick, and vulnerable women received much-needed food assistance.

This day was more than a distribution; it was a deepening of relationships. Local church volunteers joined our team, strengthening bonds of trust and unity within the community. Our staff also gathered important data on the most pressing needs, laying the groundwork for future WAM initiatives that will bring lasting hope and relief to the people of Turkana.

This pilot project served nearly 7,000 people in Turkana, Kenya.

The Turkana have captured our hearts and we cannot wait to return to Kenya to experience again the joy of fellowship with these special people. Please enjoy the  photo album from our visit below. We are grateful for your continued support of our mission, which makes it possible for us to share the love of Christ with our brothers and sisters in difficult circumstances.
